For the occasion of YIA Art Fair #7 Wunderkammern is pleased to present a solo show by American artist Dan Witz
The project explores the concept of "Emotional density" and presents recent and older artworks from the series Nightscapes and Mash Pits. Both productions are indeed filled by powerful yet extremely different emotions : quiet on one side, rough and primordial on the other. This emotional duality is evident in the series' aesthetics : the physical emptiness, and isolation of the nocturnal landscapes are opposed to the chaos, the energy and the total clutter of the mosh pits. Emotions arise from Dan Witz's artworks thanks to his extraordinaire technique.
Mash Pits
Dan Witz (Chicago, 1957) lives and works in Brooklin, New York. The artist boasts extensive formal training that includes studying the Fine Arts as well as Design; influenced by Punk culture, he began his career in 1979 and quickly became one of the major pioneers of Street Art. Challenging the more traditional canons of the art world, Witz chose to focus on urban art, creating installations on the streets of various international cities and succeeding at expressing his ideas freely and directly.
His artistic commitment earned him numerous scholarships and prizes, as well as special recognitions from institutions such as the New York Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, with important exhibitions in the foremost galleries around the world. At the beginning of his career Dan Witz concentrated on hyperrealism, which he explored through painting. His method later evolved towards street installations, which had to be realized in a very short amount of time. As a result, Witz often works with digital images which he later paints over because, as even the artists notes, with painting he’s able to obtain certain lighting contrasts that accent the realistic appearance of the figures depicted. The artist is inspired by the social changes of his time when producing art; his interventions in the street are related to political and economic issues.

«YIA ART FAIR, A CONTEMPORARY ART SALON ORIENTED TOWARDS EMERGENT AND INTERNATIONAL TALENTS »
Founded in 2010 by Romain TICHIT, the international salon of contemporary art YIA ART FAIR celebrates this year its seventh edition, and will re-open its doors from Thursday 19th to Sunday 23rd October 2016, the same week FIAC will also take place. The YIA ART FAIR will be hosted in the exceptional halls of the Carreau du Temple (2,000 m2 of exhibition space) ; in the Marais quarter in the heart of Paris.
Oriented since its establishment towards the discovery of emergent contemporary talents, YIA ART FAIR’s salon imposes itself once again this year as the satellite salon of the Parisian Art Scene.
During four days, the international salon of contemporary art YIA ART FAIR is expected to welcome more than 20,000 visitors (among art professionals, collectors, artists, art lovers and curious individuals), and will introduce the work of more than 200 artists carefully hand-picked among sixty-five French and International Art Galleries (sixteen individual nationalities are invited to exhibit: France, Germany, Romania, United States, Japan, China, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, United Kingdom, Georgia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Israel, Netherlands).
